MOSCOW, June 10 (Xinhua) -- The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) detained a Russian national for planning a terrorist attack in the country's Krasnodar region, it said in a statement Tuesday.

The 22-year-old citizen, who was acting under instructions from Ukrainian intelligence, was planning to commit a terrorist attack in the Krasnodar region in places of mass gathering.

Russian authorities said that the citizen was recruited by Ukrainian special services through WhatsApp in February 2025, and has been gathering sensitive military information, including details on the movements of Russia's Black Sea Fleet.

According to the FSB, he planned to detonate an improvised explosive device inside an administrative building of one of the energy facilities in the region.

A criminal case has been opened into the incident, and the Russian citizen has pleaded guilty and will cooperate with the authorities.

The FSB detained another Russian citizen on Tuesday for providing Ukraine with details about the Sukhumi International Airport in Abkhazia including its layout, nearby areas and information on the arrival of Russian officials, to potentially help plan a terrorist attack.

Espionage cases involving Ukrainian intelligence have become increasingly frequent in Russia. Security authorities detained two Russian citizens on Monday, who attempted to carry out an act of sabotage at a defense facility in Moscow region.
